IDM, Intelligent Dance Electronica Music

A genre characterized by having no characteristics. It's all about experimentation, and doing what you feel like doing, rather than conforming to any rules.

Aphex Twin is the best example of the groups I listen to. Take 'Come to Daddy' for example. The song has elements of glitch, drone, punk, death metal and some things that defy explanation. Yet, the track stays together all the way through and is something you can dance to.

Most of my Dance tracks fall into this category, for the simple reason that I almost never start a track with any kind of plan. I tend to just start playing until I hit something that interests me, then I work it till it talks sweet for me.

For doing IDM in Acid Music Studio, go wild. Do whatever you want, there are no rules.

I like just throwing 5 or 6 elements in with a beat and working on them till I like it.

I'm an anarchist and an eclectic pagan, my style of magick is best described as chaos magick. I make it up as I go. There is something incredible about applying that same freedom to making music.

I call my personal style ChaosCore. I use the Ed Wood philosophy of 'just do it and see what happens'.

Try going through your loop folders and just grabbing a bunch of random loops. Then play with them. Dont try to sound like anything else, just make it sound good to yourself. Be as wild and imaginative as you want to be. No restraints, nothing holding you back.

Just go for it and see what happens. You might be pleasantly surprised by the results. And if it does sound bad, sit it aside for awhile then go back to it, and play some more.

SynthPop Electronica Music

SynthPop:

If you've ever heard an early "MTV Era" band like Flock of Seagulls, a-ha, devo, and that crowd, then you've heard Synth Pop. Its very similar to Electro, except the focus is more typically "pop".

Devo had a more Punk mentality. Thomas Dolby was the first real 'geek' pop star. Synthpop uses all the classic instruments of pop and pop rock, but the synthesizer is the dominate instrument being used.

Consider 'I Ran So Far', it uses typical pop melodies, instruments and is paced as a pop song. Yet; if you pay attention, the song is driven by the simple synthesizer melody being played. 'Cars' by gary numan is probably the perfect example of a SynthPop track. The more robotic feel, processing on the instruments and emphasis on the synth is pure synthpop classic.

To make synthpop in Acid Music Studio (any program), you should first listen to some 80's new wave groups, then try Savage Garden and jameriqaui. Although not classified as a SynthPop group jameriqaui uses the foundation of synth a great deal, which makes for good idea fodder.

To construct the tracks, keep the synth in the foreground with vocals. If you are any good, with a synthesizer you can substitute any, and all instruments with synth versions. try using the synth in place of the lead guitar.

I will say its hard to make synthpop without being able to play a synthesizer well enough to do it all, or having a band to back you up. However with a bit of creativity, you can do anything with loops.

I suggest checking out Thomas Dolby and Gary Numan, they were and still are pioneers of electronica, that goes for anyone interested in making electronica songs.

Electro Electronica Music

Electro:

Electro is all about a driving drum machine beat; which acid music studio along with a couple of loops becomes, with lots of cool synthesizer riffs, and a groovy bass line. The idea is to achieve a sci-fi sound in the track. Use heavy amounts of Distortion, delay, reverb, phase and chorus to produce robotic sounding vocals and instrumentation.

With just a few loops, and some good effects work you can make some really good Electro tracks. Using a vocoder or effects to get a Stephen Hawking type voice, for vocals is also a cool method.

Try to focus on your synth work. the rest of the instruments are really in the back seat to the synthesizer. The goal when You are working with Electro is too make it sound futuristic. Take a cue, from old Sci-Fi movies, there are lots of possibilities.
